In the United States today, over 820,000 teenage girls find themselves pregnant with nowhere to go and no one to turn to. Nearly half of these pregnancies wind up in abortion, says Nancy Alcorn, founder of Mercy Ministries. Many young women find themselves facing pregnancy alone, and often suffer from other issues such as addiction, depression, eating disorders, or physical or sexual abuse.
In 1983, Nancy Alcorn made a pact with God to counsel these young women from a faith-based perspective and help them find their paths. Mercy Ministries provides a place to stay, life skills and job training for these young women and adoption placement assistance for those who feel that they cannot provide the life that their child deserves. Nancy Alcorn uses Mercy Ministries as a tool to create transformation through Jesus and has made a commitment to remain privately funded so that Mercy can continue to share the word of Christ without interference.
