Q: How has event planning changed since before the pandemic?

Q: What type of safety precautions?

McKeeman Communications: We’ve already mentioned social distancing, but there are a few other things that PR firms and event planners can do to ensure their safety as well as that of their attendees. Enact safety protocols, which might include mask wearing for unvaccinated guests or questionnaires regarding visitors’ recent COVID exposure.

Q: Are there any aspects of digital event planning that PR firms can use for in-person gatherings?

McKeeman Communications: 

There’s a new type that’s taking the in-person and virtual event world by storm – they’re called hybrid events, and they are defined more by the lack of boundaries than anything else. Hybrid events allow audiences to connect in new ways both in person and virtually, regardless of whether they’re physically present at the event or attending online. 

Since the dawn of the pandemic, there have been more than 300 different platforms developed for planning and hosting online events and webinars. These can, and often should, be used to host your event.

Q: What is the best way to handle last-minute changes?

McKeeman Communications: There’s no way to prevent unexpected cancellations by speakers or attendees who contract the virus. However, we recommend having a backup plan in place. Have a guest of honor on standby who can take over and present if your original speaker or presenter is unable to attend.
